One person has died after a fire in a Toronto apartment on Saturday morning.
In a tweet, Toronto Police said emergency services responded to an incident in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and O’Connor Drive around 8:11 a.m. Saturday.
There were reports of smoke coming from an apartment on the eighth floor of a building, police said.
Capt. Bill Papakonstantino of the Toronto Fire Department said Global News crews forced their way into one unit, where they encountered heavy smoke and flames. Firefighters were able to wrestle the fire under control and extinguish it, he said.

Crews discovered someone inside the apartment and took him to paramedics for treatment.

“They have been declared deceased,” police said.
Toronto paramedics told Global News that the deceased person is a woman.
It is not yet known how the fire started.
