2 killed outside of Indiana gas station; suspect shot by police

Two people were killed outside of a New Albany gas station Monday morning and the suspect then took someone hostage at gunpoint, police said. Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls said it’s early on in the investigation, but what they know so far is that a double homicide happened around 10 am outside of the Circle K at Beechwood and Grant Line roads, near New Albany High School. know the victims are a man and a woman. Officers pursued the suspect, a man, who said they went over to Charlestown Road, exited the vehicle and took off on foot. Huls then said the man ran into a restaurant, the Onion, and forced a female hostage by gunpoint into a vehicle. The woman was hurt, Huls said, but not shot. He said they may have been hit or run over by the vehicle during the situation. Her injuries to her were not serious New Albany police said. The suspect then took over the vehicle and tried to run over officers, Huls said. Those officers fired at the suspect and they were hit. Huls said both the suspect and hostage victim were taken to UofL Hospital. Their conditions were not provided. Police have not yet identified the suspect or victims.
