Cristiano Ronaldo’s gesture to Mikel Arteta after Manchester United’s penalty appeal against Arsenal

Images emerged of Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in conversation with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta after United rejected a penalty claim at the Emirates on Saturday.

The incident came moments before the Gunners were awarded a penalty of their own after Alex Telles was ruled to have fouled Bukayo Saka. After consulting with VAR, Craig Pawson pointed out the location.

Earlier in the game, United were pushing down the left side through Jadon Sancho. The England international’s deception left Cedric Soares struggling and the ball hit the former Southampton man’s hand, but nothing came of it.

In footage released by Arsenal’s Bench Cam, Ronaldo can be seen speaking to Arteta, pointing and appearing to suggest that a handball had been committed. United were beaten 3-1 after Granit Xhaka confirmed the three points after goals from Nuno Tavares and Saka.

Ronaldo offered a way back into the clash after scoring his 100th Premier League goal 10 minutes before half-time. He was denied the 101 from him by the fine lines of the VAR later in the game.
