That rumbling noise you might have heard emanating from downtown Ottawa early Saturday was the sound of hordes of frustrated bargain-lovers on the move.

The Great Glebe Yard Sale officially opened its doors at 8am, but as usual early risers were already ready to pick up the goods.

Traffic was virtually at a standstill in the area bounded by Bronson Avenue, Highway 417 and the Rideau Canal.

The sale also serves as a fundraiser for the Ottawa Food Bank, and vendors are asked to contribute 10 percent of their profits. The Ottawa Food Bank on Bank Street across from McKeen Metro was accepting cash donations.

The sale dates back to 1986, with just two summers to go, due to COVID-19 concerns.
