#Smiles: LVHS Sophomore’s Painting Wins Congressional Art Award; will be presented at the US Capitol building for the next year

A series to share #smiles in our community through the accomplishments of our local youth, presented by Rendezvous Dental.

(Lander, WY) – “Sisters,” an oil painting created by Lander Valley High School (LVHS) sophomore Jordan Armajo, was recently announced as the winner of the Congressional Art Award, and his work will now be on display at the U.S. Capitol. USA over the next year.

The announcement was made on the LVHS Twitter page.

According to the publication, Armajo is the first LVHS student in 26 years to win the award.

County 10 caught up with Armajo, who commented that she was “very happy and surprised” to learn that her artwork won the national award.

Armajo has been a fan of art since she was a child and said her favorite styles are oil paintings and pencil drawing.

While she’s still unsure of exactly what she wants to do in terms of a potential career in the arts, Armajo said she might one day see herself as a tattoo artist, and when asked if she had any advice for other young artists. there, she commented, “Keep doing your art.”
